Hello Nigerians. Do you know what Research says makes for a Good President?
Research into the common characteristics found in a good president reveals some intuitive features and some frankly astonishing ones. Firstly, and surprisingly (or maybe not), a very common characteristic of good presidents is that of being crooked i.e not straightforward. They have an excellent ability and willingness to bend the truth while still being seen as honest.
Secondly and more intuitively is the character of an achiever. A good president is achievement striving and competent. He or she (or they) sets ambitious goals and moves heaven and earth to meet them. The president comes to his seat with ideas and values, a clear agenda which he executes with passion and zeal. He is open to ideas and experience of others but accepts responsibility and the buck stops with him.
Thirdly, it appears good presidents are slobby. Their working desks are disorganised with stuff strewn all over the place. Apparently, disorderliness is synonymous with excellence.
Fourthly, a good president is assertive and stubborn. He is clear about what he wants, he decides and ensures his orders are carried out. Laissez faire leadership is not a quality found in a good president. His personality may be introverted or extroverted. Contemporarily, most good presidents are extroverts perhaps due to the influence and power of new media.
Finally, a good president has feelings, a genuine compassion for citizenry. He strives to improve general wellbeing and does nothing (without good reason) to inconvenience his people. He shares in their sadness and joys. and is a good communicator.
How do past Nigerian presidents score on this scale of five (5) attributes? Who is our best so far and who is our worst? What do you predict will be the outcome of the presidency of the President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu?
