Floods in Nigeria: politicians and the people

Flood, politics and 2023

Floods in Nigeria: Completely unfazed by the suffering citizenry in the flooded States in Nigeria, many of whom have had their livelihood destroyed, the 2023 candidates for the Iron throne in Aso villa – Tinubu, Atiku, and Obi -were reportedly too busy playing game of thrones to offer more than a dismissive glance in the direction of hapless citizens.

Candidates’ responses to flood in Nigeria

Kano state, which is a huge political prize with thankfully minimal floods received 100 million from Tinubu. Peter the self-acclaimed miserly billionaire doles out a stingy 5 million and a ridiculous 24 loaves of bread while wearing his party’s branded shirt and doing clandestine campaign. Atiku on the other hand, has declared he will begin his own covert campaign and donations tour of affected states – he doled out 50 million in Bayelsa. Some Nigerians remarked that while Obi (the great showman) went on a boat to see the flood victims, Atiku sat in the comfort of the Government house in Yenagoa while the victims came to visit him. Tinubu, on the other hand, sent his wife with gifts for delivery to flood IDPs.

Meanwhile, the current occupier of the Iron throne has travelled out of the Seven Kingdoms to a faraway land of Sothoryos on a hunting trip for vaccines required for a future pandemic. Nigerians wonder out load – which is more urgent, the unprecedented floods or the long-gone (or future) pandemic. Many say that the President doesn’t care about them and that he is not even faking it!
